Roof Restoration and Roof Repairs

Your roof is one of the most important parts of your home. Some of its main purposes are to protect against the elements and to successfully channel water, but every day it is exposed to Melbourne's changing weather conditions, including rain, wind, UV exposure and temperature fluctuations. Over time, these conditions can cause roof surfaces to deteriorate, coatings to break down and minor defects to develop. A professional roof restoration can improve both the appearance and performance of your roof while helping to protect your home from further weather-related deterioration by giving your roof the repairs it needs and also providing an opportunity to reseal certain openings and cracks, as these can become penetration points, then finishing off your roof with 3 x coats of paint, leaving your roof with a consistent, smooth finish. This can add an extra layer, but also create Second seals for potential penetration points again, adding an extra layer of protection. At Quick Lick Painting & Roof Restorations, we provide roof restoration services throughout Melbourne and the Mornington Peninsula. Every roof is carefully assessed before work begins, allowing us to recommend the most suitable restoration process based on the roof's condition, material and the long-term outcome you're looking to achieve. Our focus is on restoring roofs through careful preparation, quality workmanship and proven restoration systems that help deliver lasting results, putting your roof back in working order and looking pleasing to the eye.

Signs Your Roof May Need Restoration

Many roofing issues develop gradually and may not be obvious from ground level.

Some common signs that a roof may benefit from restoration include:

  • Faded or worn roof coatings
  • Moss, lichen or algae growth
  • Broken or cracked roof tiles
  • Deteriorated ridge pointing and bedding
  • Water staining inside the roof space
  • Loose ridge capping
  • Excessive dirt build-up
  • Age-related surface deterioration
  • Rust developing on metal sheeting
  • Roof screws are coming loose
  • Uneven roof tiles or metal sheeting

Identifying these issues early can often help prevent more extensive repairs in the future.

Why Roof Preparation Matters

One of the most common misconceptions about roof restoration is that applying new paint alone will restore a roof.

In reality, preparation is often the most important stage of the project.

Repairing foundation work, cleaning the roof, replacing damaged materials and products, and preparing the surface helps create the conditions needed for restoration coatings to perform effectively. Without proper preparation, even quality coating systems may not achieve their intended lifespan.

Common Roof Problems We See

Every roof tells a story.

Some of the most common issues we encounter include:

  • Roofs that have never been restored.
  • Coatings that have deteriorated due to years of UV exposure.
  • Moss and lichen retaining moisture against roof surfaces.
  • Broken roof tiles allowing water entry.
  • Cracked ridge pointing and bedding requiring replacement.
  • Minor defects that have gradually become larger maintenance issues.

Identifying these problems early often allows repairs to be completed before more significant damage develops.

Process

Our Roof Restoration Process

1

Roof Inspection & Assessment

Every restoration begins with a detailed inspection of the roof. We assess the overall condition, identify damaged or broken roof tiles, check ridge capping and pointing, inspect flashings, loose roof screws, loose metal sheeting, penetration points in existing flashing and look for signs of wear tear that may affect the restoration process. As a company were more focused on quality workmanship as this has a direct connection to our reputation, as this is more important to us as a service base Business, just like with any premium product comes with a premium price, and we are looking for the clientele that appreciate quality overall. So understanding the condition of the roof allows us to recommend the most appropriate restoration solution understanding the full scope of works that are required before any work begins.

2

Roof Preparation

Preparation is one of the most important stages of any roof restoration. Depending on the condition of the roof, preparation may include pressure cleaning, removing dirt, moss and lichen, allowing you to have a better visual perspective of the overall condition and repair work, replacing broken roof tiles, carrying out minor repairs, re-screwing of roof screws, replacing roof sheeting, repairing bedding and pointing, and replacement of flashing, and preparing the surface so restoration products can perform as intended. Taking the time to prepare the roof correctly helps improve the durability and appearance of the completed restoration.

3

Repairs & Reinstatement

Where required, damaged roof elements are repaired or replaced before coatings are applied. This may include replacing broken roof tiles, repairing ridge capping, repairing bedding and pointing, repairing timber battens, repairing old chimney and air conditioning openings, re-screwing roofing screws, replacing metal sheeting, rust treatment, replacing and rectifying flashing, renewing flexible pointing, replacing deteriorated components and completing minor roof repairs that contribute to the overall stability and restoration. Addressing these issues before painting helps create a stronger foundation for the finished roof.

4

Priming & Protective Coatings

The painting process consist of 3 elements, the first and most important is suitable primers as this helps to bind coatings to the surface. The second coat consist of a membrane paint, and this is where you start to see a transformation as this consist of colour, the reason we use Membrane Paint is it thicker consistency. This product is thick and is applied thickly in a way, almost looking it has covered in one coat. The benefit of using this product is because it is such a thick product, it can take white considerable time for it to break down in the elements being more suitable for conditions like a roof. Once this has dried a second coat of membrane Paint is applied to the surface is coat is a little thicker than the previous one and is applied in a different direction pattern to ensure a thick consistency over the surface getting better protection.

5

Final Inspection

Once the restoration has been completed, we carry out a final inspection to ensure all stages of the project have been completed to a high standard. Scaffolding contractor is notified that works have been completed so that they can schedule in a dismantle of scaffolding. Any loose ends like masking and taping of areas as protection maybe peeled off at the completion the project, roof is checked for consistency, workmanship and overall presentation before the project is finalised.
